The steps opened to a large porch. On the right side, a wooden railing by the second floor door. On the left, there was a self-contained area with a porch swing, a long, heavy-looking bench, a round table bolted to the floor and several chairs.
Beside the self-contained area to its right, the wall was rounded with three display windows behind iron grating. Various books were displayed in the window. The rounded wall ended, next to the first floor door.
Both front also had iron grating doors instead of screen doors, but first floor's was locked open. The front doors were heavy-looking doors with a window on on the top third part of them. There were heavy black curtains behind both windows, the second floor's were drawn, but the first floor's were open.
The hours were posted on the door below the window, but I didn't need to look at it, since an OPEN sign was up in the window.
I grabbed the door handle and pushed down the unlatching mechanism at the top of it, then pushed the door open. A bell tinged over the door, announcing my entrance.
It was like entering another world . . . And when it comes to book stores, that's a good sign to me. A best book stores always do.
