Passing By
« on: June 01, 2021, 12:55:59 PM »

You  pass by the old man on the street
Dirty clothes , nothing much to eat
Reeking of booze, that’s his pity
It must be his fault that’s his life’s so shitty

We see the “crazy” woman pushing  a buggy
There is no baby because she’s a druggie
But there is belief in her hazy eyes,
She’s still a mummy, in her unkempt disguise

That young girl is bullied at school
For what who knows, she  just ain’t cool
She gets the bus each day on her own
Hiding her anxiety , just by being alone

Then there’s old Fred, he’s looking frail
His hair’s fallen out and he’s damn pale
How many months , or weeks  has he left
Or even just days until his last breath

You don’t care you just walk on
It’s not your concern,though it’s so wrong
Your mind’s just on  coffee and cake
And getting through to the morning break

On the way home head’s in the phone,
Those unsightly bugs better get back under their stones
You are merely a passer by you see
Another,  product of uncaring society.

What a perfect sum up of a typical day in someone's life who feels they are the 'right one's' of society just because they are not down on their luck!. if possible would love to read the person downfall and their opinion of what life is like! merit from me!

Man, that is a slice of life that cuts to the core of us all.  Great work, Jessica.

As someone who loves and enjoys the aspects of poetry I really have to say well done for this piece you have given us.
The way we all are guilty of making assumptions of others without knowing their circumstances was well represented here and I felt like I was walking side by side with you as we see these different members of society.
Very good work and I look forward to seeing if you do decide to take up the task of turning a poetic piece of a persons privilege into a story as only you can provide.
Deep well done and a merit for sure on this.

As always, gritty realism from Jess' pen making us consider a different perspective. The existential crisis that we are each flashes in others' life stories and we ourselves have millions of flashes. We make assumptions to silence our nagging thoughts about them or decisions to distance and immunize ourselves from what may be real tragedy. Thanks Jess for sharing this.
