So just let me say, I am a big fan of both Gordon Lightfoot and the Headstones. However, this is a Lightfoot classic the Headstones should have never attempted to cover. I am a bit of a purist, and in my view, the Headstones greatly disrespected this most iconic of Canadian songs. It is not a song that needs to be,
nor should it be, "rocked up". They totally wrecked the sombre, dark atmosphere Gordon Lightfoot created, and which in my view, is what makes the song so great as a memorial to this tragic event. As a fellow Canadian artist, Hugh Dillon really should be ashamed of himself. That's my opinion anyway.
