Graham and I began this in the games forum a while back. I decided it might be more appropriate to move it here to the music forum. Here is how it goes. You find a song from one artist that has been covered by another artist and you post the original along with the cover. OR you can post two covers of the same song by different artists. The first one I'm going to post is originally from 1986. Battleship Chains by Georgia Satellites, then a cover done by Danish metal band Volbeat.

Only fair that I reply here since I so enjoyed playing Vile8r in the game section on this one!

Have to say this one of the few times when I feel the cover is better than the original!

This has been covered lots of times, maybe most famously by The Beatles and by The Carpenters. Here's The Carpenter's version:

For me The Carpenters's version had more energy so it tops the Marvelette's version. Did consider Portugal The Man's use of the music very creative!

Always on my mind is one of those weird covers, because all three of those versions are huge in their own right. It's impossible to choose a favorite. They all bring something unique and great to it. If I recall correctly, Elvis wasn't the original artist either.

My contribution is two covers by Disturbed, both, I think, outshine the original.

As grumpy stated each version of "Always On My Mind" are unique in their own right. Too bad toy didn't post B.J. Thomas's original 1970 version 

I don't know why but Disturbed's version of both some had a menacing feel to the way the lyrics are sang! Definitely prefer Disturbed better than the original!

Johnny Cash version of Hurt is stellar, he knew he was coming to an end then.

I was actually surprised it was written by them, as it sounds like it could be a cover

Then this.......cover by Atomic Kitten.
No one I knew liked this. It was only 12 years after the original and really a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and don’t butcher the Bangles!!

I have to agree there was no reason to cover The Bangles outside of getting a hit from millennials who don't know the original!
