So, I don't know what the protocol is, but is it possible to start the contest again?

I always enjoyed checking out all the nominated stories.

I would second the motion. But even better than checking out the entries is to contribute to the contest.

I don't really know how to do it. Here is our choices.

1. We nominate stories and post the nomination here. Then the group at large votes on the stories. (I don't know how to set up the poll part) Win, Place, and Show are determined by the votes.

2. We write stories, post them in the proper category and post a discretion and link here at designated date, some tallies downloads and Win, Place And Show and Honorable Mentions are determined by download total, during the specified time frame.

3. We open a Contest folder for each month here. Such as "Contest February 2020." Stories are posted in the folder and either judged by poll once we close the month or by total reads. Though if posted here I'd prefer a vote system and not download count. How many people read something is no judge of the character or quality of a story.

4. Some other format suggestions please.

Votes can be done with survey monkey...I can help with that part if u want

I have been part of story contests on another site which shall not be named. The concept there was to give all participants a challenge to include three concepts and a randomly chosen word limit. The author submits the story to the contest and in the alternating months the rest of the board votes via poll on which story should win.
It’s a pretty good contest as the ways people incorporate those concepts into their stories is creatively quite different. Especially if you make the concepts
 a bit abstract.
Eg. Voting, contest, snob at max 3000 words

The fun is coming out of the creative abuse of those concepts, and we have amazingly creative people here on the RU

I think rules can be adjust as we go. But you go for a few rules for consideration.


1. Stories are submitted by the author in thread for the month of the contest.
2. The story must be original new material and this will be its first posting.
3. The story should be between 2500 and 5000 words.
4. The story for this month must be submitted no later than Saturday the 29th of February.
5. The story should have some reference to the following
     A. Family (not necessarily incest)
     B. Love (as this is February we should honor Valentines Day with some type of love in the story)
     C. The story must have a gift in it that causes some type of conflict
6. The story is to be posted in it's proper category with a link and short description or hook for the story here.
7. Voting is open to all registered RU members
8. As suggested this is a Ladies Contest this month I assume that means only women authors are competing. This isn't something I am suggesting it was already laid out and this rule will have to be determined. Which should be right fast.

Bubbles can set up the voting rule ie how many times one person can vote and any other restriction. And I think she can set up the poll itself. I suggest voting can last until the 10th of the following month.

I think each month, we should have a contest in place by the 3rd of that month. If we do a woman's month this month, then next should a Men's Month for the contest.

If you figure out men might contribute I will be in, if not I will gladly participate in voting.

bubbles, if you would be a darling and setup the survey monkey poll near the end of the contest time, I'd be every so please.

As a thought, in future contest, should entries be open from the 1st to the 15 and voting from the 16 to end of the month? I'd be willing to post rules and the writing elements by the last day of the month if that is the case. If I'm the one that is doing that part of it!
