Eurydice Dixon's murderer in court
« on: August 15, 2019, 04:55:49 PM »
Okay, this may not belong here exactly, but I want to discuss it just the same.

So, Eurydice Dixon was a Melbourne comedienne (sorry for the outdated gender-specific) who was raped and murdered, and her murderer (whose name I will not provide) is facing court today. Now, the guy deserves to be locked up, don't get me wrong; he decided to act out on his rape and snuff fetish.

What he doesn't deserve is to have his Autistic Spectrum Disorder (which every Australian news outlet has focused on) be used as the reason he acted this way.

Quite a few members of this forum identify as on the spectrum, myself included. I don't need to say that synonymising ASD with sexual deviancy is harmful, and especially a dangerous stereotype. Unfortunately, here in Australia, it's been used as a reason for people doing bad things in Australia for years, possibly even decades, since at least Port Arthur, and even had a resurgence when Pauline Hanson, in her usual mindless spiels, blamed ASDs for disruptions in classrooms, requesting their separation into "special" classes.
