Vile8r's Blast Furnace
« on: May 04, 2019, 11:47:56 PM »

Welcome to Vile8r's Blast Furnace. Here I am going to feature some of my harder and heavier favorite musical selections. The Vile8r's Vault will still keep going but focus on other genres of music.  Come in and enjoy but beware of flying shrapnel and explosions and wear hearing protection! It could get nasty in here! By the way, the pic is from a Black Sabbath concert I attended in April 2014.

The premiere selection for the Blast Furnace was hard to make but I finally decided on some fine Black Sabbath! 'Mob Rules' is from the post-Ozzy era of 1981. Ronnie James Dio had replaced Ozzy in the band, and in my opinion, Black Sabbath made one of the best albums since 1971's Masters Of Reality from ten years earlier. I was 15 when I first bought this album, and I will say.....I shook the cobwebs in my parents' basement loose blasting this baby on my stereo!

This was released in 1973.The group Montrose was comprised of lead guitarist, Ronnie Montrose; bassist Bill Church; drummer Denny Carmassi; and a young fellow by the name of Sammy Hagar on lead vocals! Montrose was around for several years in the '70s, and even though they didn't have any mainstream success, their sound later influenced a lot of hard rock bands of the '80s. Another interesting tidbit: The album was produced by Ted Templeman, who would later produce many albums for Van Halen.....and who Sammy Hagar would eventually end up fronting 13 years later!

Gonna throw some Judas Priest at ya!  'Victim of Changes' from their 1979 live album 'Unleashed In The East', one of the finest live heavy metal albums ever released!

Gonna get into some classic Metallica. Back before they went commercial. I actually didn't get into this album until 1984, about a year after it came out. The first Metallica album I really got into was 'Ride The Lightning', their second album. After that, it didn't take me long to buy 'Kill 'Em All' and this song quickly became one of my favorites.

That's some good classic heavy metal choices vile8r! Since you linked that Metallica song, have you at all listened to Kreator? They're basically the german Metallica. Their latest album is amazing, but they've been around for basically the same period as Metallica, so they have some older gems too.

I have heard of Kreator and listened to a few of their songs but not a lot.

From one of my all-time favorite live albums by one of my all-time favorite bands, 'Anthem' by Rush from their 1976 live album 'All the World's A Stage".

A bit of classic Blue Oyster Cult for you from the golden year of 1980! One of the greatest ever for hard rock/heavy metal! This track was from BOC's awesome album, 'Cultosaurus Erectus'.  'Black Blade' was written by sci-fi and fantasy author, Michael Moorcock, and is about Stormbringer, a black sword wielded by Elric of Melniboné, the most famous character in Moorcock's mythology.

ArmyOfOne got me thinking about progressive rock, so I pulled this out of the vault. Jethro Tull, 'Bungle In the Jungle' from their 1974 album, 'War Child'.
