These guys are one of my all-time favorite hard rock bands of the 70s and 80s. They always got lumped in with the 'heavy metal' genre, but I always considered them more of a 'progressive hard rock' type band. This album came out in 1981, and was their best, in my view. A lot of their songs dealt with supernatural, science fiction, and fantasy themes, and I have always been a big fan of that kind of thing.

Unfortunately, many people are only familiar with BOC through that song, 'Don't Fear the Reaper.'  They were not a band that ever had a lot of 'radio hits'  and that song was probably one of their more popular. Two other BOC songs you've likely heard on the radio are 'Godzilla' and 'Burnin' For You'. This song, 'Fire Of Unknown Origin' actually gained a bit of mainstream exposure a while back when it was featured in an episode of the TV series, 'Supernatural'. It exposed the band to a lot of new fans who had never heard of them before. BOC is still around, they do the classic rock festival thing, and still do a bit of touring but I don't think they've recorded any new music in quite a few years.

Here is 'Burnin' For You.' Also released in 1981.

Everyone knows 'Blinded By The Light' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. It was a cover of a song originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen. But how many know this one? 'I Came For You', is another Bruce Springsteen song also covered by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. This was from their 1980 album, 'Chance'. A true lost classic of the '80s!

Loved that one vile8r didn’t know they played into the 80s.
You have an eye for the less mainstream hits which is good as we need to find them.

This one is kinda soft and hard all at the same time! I have always loved the German heavy metal band, the Scorpions. I like a lot of their early stuff from the 1970s, back before they became big in America with stuff like, 'Rock You Like A Hurricane.' This song is from their 1976 album, 'Virgin Killers'.

Some good Canadian pop rock from the 1990s. These guys deserved to be much bigger and popular than they were. This was from their 1994 album, Undertow, which was their second and also last album. This track, 'Hollow Shell', was really the only 'radio hit' they had. The lead singer Chris Tait, had had some earlier success with the Canadian pop rock group, Chalk Circle, back in the '80s.

That last was really good. It’s amazing how much we don’t get to hear. All this stuff I’ve never heard before and I wouldn’t ever if it wasn’t for you. Thank you.

So I'm sitting in the restaurant this morning having some breakfast. Music is being piped in from somewhere and I don't hear any annoying DJs and the music is way too good, so I know it's not one of the local commercial radio stations. I figure they must have satellite radio or streaming from somewhere. Anyway, the music they're playing is mostly classic '80s pop. And who should I hear but Australian group 'Icehouse'!  I haven't heard these guys in years! The song I heard was 'Electric Blue', a big hit for them in 1987 from their album 'Man of Colours', which I used to own! This track is also from that album and was also a hit for them that year. Between the two tracks, this is actually my favorite. I had a lot of fun back in 1987, LOL, and this song brought back a lot of memories.

Liked that a very late 80s feel to it. Not unlike Crowded House.

A fitting comparison as both groups were Australian!

Don't know why, but I had this song in my head this morning. Despite the more '90s feel to this song, it actually came out in 1987! I really liked these guys when they came out and I wished they could have been bigger. They ended up overshadowed by bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam.

Remember listening to Epic a big hit for them for a bit.
You’re right, they weren’t Pearl Jam or Nirvana.
They weren’t bad though by any means, thanks for sharing.

Anytime I am asked to list off some favorite albums of the '80s, inevitably Yes: 90125 will come up. I will always remember the winter of 1983-84 when this album hit big in Canada. This song wasn't actually one of the singles off the album, but is one of my personal favorites from the album. I have always loved Jon Anderson's singing.
