Tammy was thrilled by this, me could take or leave it!. Haven't heard enough to form a proper opinion on them since the music really doesn't do anything for me!

One of my favorite tracks from British glam rockers Sweet. This is from their third album, 1974's Desolation Boulevard. This album also featured the classic rock hits, "Ballroom Blitz" and "Fox on the Run." It was inarguably their best album and also their most commercially successful.

I love Sweet. This was the period where they became international music superstars! Many times I find the non hit songs were better than the songs chosen to lead the albums!

Digging up an old band from the 1980s. The Lords of the New Church was a gothic new wave band that came out in the early '80s. They were from Great Britain. This track, "Russian Roulette" is from their self-titled 1982 debut album.

Can't say that I remember them! Wasn't all that impressed with new wave back in the day, Getting a better liking for the wide variety of  artists under the umbrella heading. Thank for the introduction, will have to search for more from them!

Saga is a very underrated Canadian prog-rock band. Despite their origins from Oakville, Ontario, Saga just never seemed to really take off in their home country. With the exception of a short period between about 1981-85, when Saga charted a few hits from the albums, Worlds Apart (1981); Heads or Tales (1983); and Behaviour (1985), most of the band's success was in Europe, where they were quite popular. This track is from their self-titled 1978 debut album. It has always been a staple of their live shows.

Well thank you for a future Canadian Music presentation. Can't say that I remember them. Looking at their discography can't say that anything comes to mind!

Well thank you for a future Canadian Music presentation. Can't say that I remember them. Looking at their discography can't say that anything comes to mind!

Their only 2 "big" Canadian hits were "Wind Him Up" and "On the Loose", both from the "Worlds Apart" album released in 1981 and "Scratching the Surface" from their 1983 album, "Heads or Tales."

It's almost Christmas and so I dig up an old favorite from the vault. "2000 Miles" by the Pretenders from their 1984 album "Learning To Crawl." I've always loved Chrissie Hynde's voice and she does such a great job on this track. For a long time, this was not one of my favorite songs from this album. but I have come to appreciate what a beautiful song it really is.

To me one of the most neglected bands in music. They didn't need obnoxious lyrics or need to play the instruments over the vocals. Chrissie Hynde was a pure vocalist with the ability to hold a person interest in the lyrics right to the very end! This one in particular is perfect for it doesn't beat the listener over the head about Christmas. It's more a ballad that can easily exclude Christmas and still make perfect sense! Merit awarded from me for posting!

Rush released their seventh studio album Permanent Waves on this day in 1980!  "Freewill" is one of my favorite tracks from that album and for years has been a crowd favorite at their live shows. This version is from a performance in Montreal during the group's 1981 Moving Pictures tour.

It's must be me but I don't see or hear what is so great about Rush. Many bands had a better sound, better stage presentation and a lead singer who can actually sing! I will give it they are way better than Nickelback!

One of my favorite Dire Straits albums was their 1980 album, Making Movies.  This track, "Solid Rock" was from that album. You didn't see Dire Straits rock out too much, but they do on this song.

A quintessential band of the eighties that in my opinion opened the door for the eighties wave of the British invasion. So many great tunes penned by Mark Knopfler have became anthems of the eighties. Merit to be awarded when allowed!
