When Rapes are Reported and Nothing Happens
« on: July 24, 2018, 04:22:04 PM »
Here's a link to a very in depth report done by our local Minneapolis newspaper.  It goes into detail of many cases of reported rapes that were either grossly mishandled or in some cases not even investigated.  It's chilling, to say the least. It's a very long report. It was a special section to the Sunday paper.  If nothing else, you must admire the women who came forward and told their stories.  I hope you will at least skim through it.  If it can happen here, you can be sure it's going on in other communities.

After this came out there was a storm of indignant politicians trying to grab headlines or at least get their name in the paper.  You can see them in your mind, pounding their desk and saying something should be done!  I'm going to pass a law!!!! Yadda Yadda Yadda.  So, where the fuck were you people when this was going on.

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is starting a task force to investigate the lack of investigation.  Just what's needed, more study by an ad hoc committee. She sounds like she really means business.  Oh wait...did I mention she also running for Governor.  Yeah right.

I do hope, politicians aside, that this could be the start of another citizen's movement.  Just like the "Me Too" wave that's brought so many abuser down.  To wait or expect government to do anything other than produce hot air, just means things will stay the same.  Only when voters make noise and the pols see it could mean a loss of votes, will anything get done. IMHO!
