Sex slavery has got to be one of the most heinous crimes there is. I'm glad to read that there is a lawsuit against Backpage.com. It's amazing that it should still be around based on the number of cases I have heard just like this one where victims were sold via that website. Backpage can no longer hide behind free speech. They have crossed over into inciting the worst kind of violence.

Thanks for posting this Susan.

Why is every case of prostitution now called sex trafficking?  Just because there is travel taking place doesn't make it a trafficking case.  The girl ran away (which takes a lot more than simply being a "free spirit" to decide to do) and got mixed up in prostitution and likely drugs.  They make it sound as if some thugs came to an upscale neighborhood and abducted some innocent girl from her own home as she was practicing her violin, and proceeded to ship her around the country as a sex slave.

Sex trafficking is prostitution when the prostitute has no agency (the abstract princaple, not an agency) involved, and has diminished or non-existent choice with regards to their profession, their hours, compensation, etc. If a girl proactively decides to become a call girl, the madam at the call center is not guilty of trafficking.

It seems like it is mentioned a lot because unfortunately thats a large percentage of prostitutes.

That's a good concise explanation.  +1 merit

If I'm not right, please correct me.  I believe that trafficking is where someone is taken over state lines for the use of sex.  This story has nothing to do with that.  I mean she was a troubled girl in the first place before all of this happened.  At the least the people that ran this should be charged with kidnapping and the participants should be charged with rape of a minor.
