It is done by hosting the photo on another site.  This is very easy if the photo is already posted elsewhere.  Use the insert image button just under the italics button.  It will give you an opening and closing HTML tag for image (img).  Right click the photo you want to post and select properties.  Copy the URL, for instance: http://www.aospacificcentral.org/OakJan2002/hannepopow.jpg

Then paste the URL between the image tags you obtained by selecting the image button.  And it's magic,

Note that I had to put spaces between the '[' and the 'img' so that it would not display the picture.  Another way to see what it will look like before you post it is to hit the quote button at the top of my post.

If the picture is not already hosted you will need an image hosting service.

If someone puts a pic link from a paysite here, they have a referrer URL back to here and can find offending posts and get them removed.

I like postimage.org. No registration required (though you can do more if you go thru a free registration), unlimited image storage that apparently lasts forever, and it's got really, really simple bulk upload and thumbnail creation procedures, unlike some of the other image hosts I've seen.

Does anyone know of an adult audio file hosting site?  I am interested in doing MP3 stories, perhaps even voicing the dialog.  I have done some small segments and it is incredibly vivid when read aloud.  If there is a good audio hosting site out there (there are hundreds but their TOS does not allow adult content), I would love to share some stories with the group.

i havent looked into it much but i hear you can store anyfile type @ dropbox.com (its also free at least w/ google, but you do have to register.)

I think you misunderstand why we want you to use image hosting.

Image hosting is so that you can post your pictures on RU.  This is important as when you upload directly to our server it takes up space and we can't make back-ups.

As for how you store your own photos, that is up to you.  But people might want to back-up their important images by using an image host so that if their computer crashes they have back-ups. To do this I would register so that you can always access them using your account.  Check the rules of the site.  Some allow you to designate pictures as public or private.

That really depends on where the site is hosted and who is trying to get their court order honored.  For instance:  If the site is hosted in Norway, the warrant needs to comply with Norwegian law.  And the Norwegians have the most stringent privacy protections in the world, so the warrant would have to be substantive.  They don't allow fishing expeditions.  Likewise, if the USA wanted to serve a website hosted in Russia, I am sure they would be stonewalled given the current state of realtions.

Want to know where a site is hosted?  Just Google "Who is Hosting This".  A company with the same name can get you the info.  However, there are also sites that route through other hosts making the pinpointing of the origin an onerous task.  But if you trying to hide something from an entity like the NSA, I am sure they have various hacks and would not even bother with a warrant. 

Photobucket is no longer free.

They have decided to charge $400 annually for 3rd party hosting of images.  With free hosting sites available, I won't be paying that for the site I own with Plaything.  I'm sure Lois won't either.

So don't use photobucket for images.

I have an image I want to attach to a story and it's already in imgur.  But when I tried previewing the image turns out too large in my opinion.

I want it to enhance the story not to stretch the story so much people have to move the screen back and forth.

What tag can you put to limit size?  My best guess is it's ratio is 4 tall by 6 wide.
