So I'm watching this documentary Addicted To Porn on telly.

There's no doubt porn is now more easily accessible to the general public globally. Afterall this is what the internet more or less specialises in on the information highway.
Personally, I don't believe children -those under 18, should view or b able to view pornography.
Reality has never reflected this.
There's such variety of porn. But this has existed even before the age of the internet. The extreme end of porn has always existed.
Porn is predominantly made by men for the male gender. It is no surprise whatsoever, that most of the material is mysogenistic. Most material is violent. This is due to the male gender. And it boosts men's confidence.
How much do female performers actually enjoy working extreme or otherwise, porn? And I mean really enjoy the sexual act? Not the money etc? How many women r conditioned to enjoy?
Porn can b harmful to adults. It is harmful to those under a certain age.

What I've done -mostly topless pics in the past, I'd have to consider the most softest of porn yes.
However, I'd stress that what I've done was in no way harmful to anyone, unlike the popular extreme porn available by others which may actually b harmful to other adults and pretty much for sure to most if not all minors.

An addiction is when you need or want something so badly that it hurts you: As in watching porn at work gets you fired.
But possibly this simply indicates a lack of impulse control and not an addiction?

In addition to that, I believe it provides a release for those who have fantasies that, without porn, would possibly act them out, and thereby potentially harming others.

Anything can be harmful. Is pornography intrinsically toxic, like a tall glass of mercury? No, however it Can Be. If it's abused, I grew up with Family Touch, my father left out in a continuing campaign of Covert Incest (Sexual harassment by a family member) So, yes. It can, in fact be harmful. Just like anything, too much Oxygen can kill you, a hell of a lot faster than drinking yourself to death, lung cancer from smoking, or overeating sugar can contribute to Type 2 diabetes.

I've studied addictions including porn. Yes it should be kept from children. And yes it CAN be addictive. So is chocolate and alcohol and weed and social media as well as a myriad of things. Most anything done in abundance without much control, can be considered an addiction. As a female, I can attest to some girls loving porn. But my love of it, stems more from still images or stories. Women are better able to connect feelings of pleasure without pictures, than men. One doesn't make the other less harmful or less addicting. But if you are paying rent or a mortgage. Supporting yourself and/or a family, eating without food lines. Not calling off work to fill your need for porn, than it is not really an addiction. Could you do it less? Most likely, yes, but you could also do it more.
Personally I find twitter and facebook and other social media venues to be far more destructive

I like erotic manga, but I have to put it away so people don't see me look at it. So it's impossible for me to be addicted to it.

If anything bothers you enough, that you feel the need to hide it from others..therein lies the problem. An addiction can be a once a day thing, or once a year. Many alcoholics only drink once or twice a year. It isn't then, the amount they drink, or the timeliness of it, it's how the alcohol affects their lives when they do drink.
I myself have an addictive personality. I am aware of it and try to watch myself. I rarely drink alcohol. Don't do weed or drugs. I watch porn occasionally. And I do not do twitter or facebook. I try to limit the number of times I go out dancing. I only really struggle with reading porn. And I work on feeding that in safe venues like RU.

If I stay in bed all day, and no one bothered me, I would look at erotic comics and artwork all day.

Irony is.. nobody can tell another they're an addict of any sort. It must be their own decision. Others may think it and know it, but an addict will never accept such a judgment from others.
If you stay in bed, call off work and stop eating right, you might want to think hard on it..otherwise you're just enjoying the escape

I do feel that porn has taken over my life much more in the past few years than ever before. I think because of my experiences it has made me in a strange way evaluate myself and I do compare what I do with what I see on screen and in the written word. I often wonder if I'm doing it right and am I what men want. I will admit that being on a site like this allows me to view porn in a way that I don't feel like I'm doing anything naughty or bad.

Porn is not the only way I get off when alone - so I don't think I'm addicted - just thinking about a female friend, or sharing an idea with her is often sufficient.
I discovered porn well before 18, in a pre-internet world, so I think it's inevitable that will happen. I was curious about sex anyway, and had read a lot about it, and it's hard to deny a sexual being their sexytime! Better to emphasise to kids the difference between fantasy and reality. What happens in movies of any kind is generally more fantasy than reality anyway.

Porn is definitely harmful, I was shown porn at an early age and I'm pretty sure it fucked me up (along with everything else that happened) but I also link that to my inability to feel emotionally connected to people who sexually arouse me.
