Title: Posting a story in more then one Literature topic area
Post by: Brokenwing on September 26, 2017, 05:32:10 PM
I know I've seen it done a few times but for the first time I somewhat have a selfish reason to do so, so I want to ask. . .

Is it against the rules to post a story in more then one Literature section.

My new story "Given To 'The Club'" I posted in the EXTREME stories section because the character is pretty young sand there is quite a bit of body modification and torture.

But I think it also would find "fans" and readers in the BDSM Stories section.

Technically is there a rule against posting it both places?

Or at a minimum can I post a link in the BDSM section?

I don't know that there's a posted rule about it for stories per se. I don't think anyone's asked. But in general, mods will from time to time 'clean up' the board by consolidating threads in different sections that have discussions on the same topic, usually by new posters who are trying to find the best spot to post.

I would say stick to a single board. Anyone can find anything here. We're not that large, and of course you can maintain your own master stories list on your profile page, on the 'Authors and their Stories' page, or both, with whichever descriptors you like that will guide the right readers to the right tales.

I know sometimes I have to think about the ideal board to post in, and maybe that's not idea overall, but I don't really think we need multiple identical copies of anything floating around.

That's my take, until Lois or another boss decides to chime in.

There's linking tools right over the submit field.  So, if you have sections that involve different Kinds of rape, (Or consensual BDSM...) you could hypertext link between chapters.  Or, just put it in Mixed groupings, which is what i do.

{With the caveat that it doesn't always go as planned.  For instance, I may start out in Gang Rape, and then branch off into multiple serials following the different members after the initial crime...)

That's always a problem with long stories. I've had some that suddenly get quite extreme for a couple isolated chapters in the middle of a longer regular intensity piece. In cases like that, just flag anything that might give someone issues. These categories aren't supposed to be hard and fixed, just convenient for the reader to find something of a general tenor.

I'm glad you said that, because I had assumed, but never had it explicitly stated.  For example:

Consensual sex.  Because it's in let's say one-on-one rape, doesn't mean neither the victim, nor abuser can have consensual sex.  That would be silly, but as you pointed out we also have story codes so people can search for fetishistically triggering material.  (They want to read about mother/son incest, they can search for it.)  Also, so that if anyone has certain subjects which are phobically triggering like mother/son incest, they can avoid it, because it's marked mother/son incest.

I quite often use triggering (Triggers work both ways.  Arousal is another triggered response) events like mother/son incest for motivation.  An Anger Retaliatory Rapist subconsciously hates women, because he was molested (And otherwise emotionally abused/dominated) by his mother.  So, I could put it in Mixed Groupings, or just put a Trigger Warning in chapter heads, but again if someone wants to read a story about a serial rapist, serially raping women, it's generally better to put it in that section.

And finally, an issue that hasn't been brought up is Spamming.  These boards are fairly high turnover, so every time someone posts in 1o1, it pushes everyone else's posts down in the stack.  If you have a Mixed Groupings story, then spam it in 4 different boards, you push everyone else's stories down on all 4 boards.  So, this can be abused.  Not accusing anyone of that, but we have rules to prevent that sort of thing.

Ah-HAH!!!  You ASSUMED!!  You know, of course, what happens when you ASSUME.

[Proper reply]: No, and yet, you confidently asserted that I do.  Interesting...
