The wife and I were watching an old episode of the Maverick TV series (a western from the early sixties for those not familiar with the show) last night and had to wonder if the writers of the episode were psychic.
The Sheriff told Maverick if he didn't get a job within twenty-four hours, he would either have to leave town or be arrested for vagrancy. Maverick convinced the town doctor, as a "patriotic American", to hire Maverick for a dollar a month to see to "national security". When the Sheriff came in the next day to run Maverick out of town, Maverick explained that he did indeed have a job as "camel watcher". When the Sheriff wanted to know what a camel watcher did, Maverick told him, "Every hour I go outside and look to see if there are any camels in town. If there are, and if they're being ridden by Arabs, I telegraph Washington to let them know we're being invaded."
Think they knew something the rest of us didn't?
