Someone *just* uploaded a torrent with the full set of videos from
Two Knotty Boys
to ThePirateBay. I'm downloading it right now, and I'll be posting the links at RapidShare and <
suggest a good alternate upload site
>.
Here's the comment from the Two Knotty Boys (flaming fucking death to the United States of Disney and assholes at YouTube!):
Quote
Our YouTube videos have been taken down and our account dumped. We had
over 3,000 subscribers, 70 videos and over 7 million views. No nudity,
nothing salacious or pornographic, just hand ties and knots set to
music and overdubbed voice --- to much for YouTube to handle, I guess?
In truth all it takes is a handful of people flagging to kick off a
video, three videos down and your out. We stopped posting videos a
month ago to avoid losing the account and still we were taken down.
Our call to you all...
If you have any of our videos, start an account and POST THEM! If you
have bandwidth stick them up on your site (use them to get more
traffic - we don't care). Give them away, make DVDs, just don't charge
for them (no paysites).
We want them to stay free, now and years to come!
I'm seriously bummed!!

If you're on a crappy dial-up and you get errors in the download, these PAR2 files
will help. You do NOT need these files if you got the RARs and they extract OK.
I also included 2% worth of recovery blocks inside the RARs when I RARed them up,
so there are two different ways to correct download / transmission errors. If you
only had a few errors, open up WinRAR and browse to the downloaded files. SELECT
the ones that had errors during extraction and hit the REPAIR button or the TOOLS
- REPAIR ARCHIVE Alt+R option to repair them. I've used this feature before, but
it's dicey and doesn't always correct the files.
The first .par2 file is a quick check file, and anyone with a squirrely connection
should grab it to make sure that the RARs are OK. It will tell you how many extra
recovery blocks you need to download if you had errors.

New book from
Master K
for the discerning rope pervert:
http://www.thebeautyofkinbaku.com/index.html
The Beauty of Kinbaku
(Or everything you always wanted to know about Japanese erotic bondage when you suddenly realized that you didn't speak Japanese) by Master K
Four years of research, much of it in Japan, has gone into the creation of this book, making it the most comprehensive volume on its subject in English.
Included in its hardbound 192 lavishly illustrated pages are chapters on:
* The origins and history of this fascinating subject - from ancient times to the present day.
* Its evolution as an art form, from medieval martial art to modern erotic pleasure.
* Twenty five mini biographies of its most notable artists and practitioners throughout the years.
* A photo gallery with 109 brand new and stunningly beautiful photographs by shibari artist and teacher Master "K"!
* For the first time in English, an extensive glossary that describes and defines all of the classic kinbaku ties used from the past to the present.
* A clearly illustrated "How-to" section showing you how to complete three of the most important ties upon which many tying patterns are based.
* An extensive bibliography.
Master "K" is a renowned authority on his subject and has been a teacher of Kinbaku for over 30 years. He is also the author of many published works on his art, including "Shibari, the Art of Japanese Bondage" (2004).
From Osada Steve:
"Master "K" promises, and Master "K" delivers. This book is a masterpiece, the mother of all books on Kinbaku/Shibari. It's the yardstick with which all future books on the subject will be measured."
"...beautiful and illuminating... gorgeous and oft surprising...
A comprehensive, educational and stimulating read that also looks good on the coffee (or tea) table."
-Steve Indands
"...Master "K" does a masterful job. ...Well done! ...Find the funds to acquire this edition, you will not be sorry."
-Jimi Tatu
$89 + S/H, I'll let ya know how much I love adding it to my collection.

I received "The Beauty of Kinbaku" by Master "K" a few days ago. It was shipped carefully wrapped in tissue paper & sealed with a golden emblem bearing a large 'K', the whole inside a waterproof acetate sleeve. Nice touch on the emblem, Master K!
Is it worth $105 (when you figure in shipping)? For me, yes. It's
not
a book for beginners, unless you're already interested in the history, background and motivations of Japanese erotic bondage art. This is most assuredly NOT "Kinbaku-bi in 10 easy steps"; his previous book "Shibari, the Art of Japanese Bondage" (2004) covered that more fully. Sadly, you won't find the 2004 book as it was a limited run and only got one pressing. I've only
seen
a copy of the earlier book... it was already a rarity by the time I'd heard of it. I've searched the world over and never found a copy for myself.
This volume more closely concerns the history and philosophy of erotic bondage in Japan... roughly half of the book is illustrated background on the art, another third of the book is a series of beautiful photographic plates in full color, and the last tiny section is the glossary and about 12 pages of 'how-to' with annoyingly tiny B&W photos.
The book itself immediately brings to mind "The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage" by Midori. Her book is the only other I'd read that went into any of the history and mindset, and was also very well produced.
The sample pages I'd shown above from their site don't give the proper feel for the book... but hey, everyone gets to nit-pick.
So, if you're looking for beginner's info, pick one of the other books I'd reviewed elsewhere, as this won't get ya there. It's well worth the money to a dedicated Rope Pervert.

Whoops, I *thought* I'd reviewed the other bondage books in print already... seems I did it elsewhere, and not >here<.
"Rope Bondage: Precision and Persuasion with Rope" by Scott Smith: I wouldn't bother with this book and DVD by Scott Smith... it's only 64 pages, and the DVD is about a flogging demo, NOT bondage. If you can find it for $20 or less it's probably OK at that price... barely. An old Boy Scout manual would probably do you as much good, though.
http://www.amazon.com/Rope-Bondage-Precision-Persuasion-Educational/dp/1887895035
$39
Somewhere out there on the 'net is a 3 DVD series on bondage, but I'd talked to one of the guys here in Dallas that had it, and it wasn't worth the effort. Any of the books below will do you better.
Jay Wiseman's 'Erotic Bondage Handbook' is also on my "not recommended" list: too few illustrations. In one spot he spends 2 or 3 pages of
text description
on a knot, and I'll be fucked if there's a single picture! I've been a rope fancier for ~ 4 decades and *I* couldn't figure it out. Like his other books, most of this book is safety and warnings, with very little meat on the real topic.
http://www.amazon.com/Jay-Wisemans-Erotic-Bondage-Handbook/dp/1890159131
$12
Chanta Rose has 'Bondage for Sex', mostly along the Japanese style. Too many steps omitted for the beginner, though. Gorgeous photos, and she DOES show my favorite (the Crab Tie / Frog Tie).
http://www.amazon.com/Bondage-Sex-Chanta-Rose/dp/0977723801/
$24
I'd personally recommend any of these four, with caveats on each:
Midori: 'The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage'
, good illustrations, color 'finish' photos, purely Kinbaku-bi (beautiful bondage).
http://www.amazon.com/Seductive-Art-Japanese-Bondage/dp/1890159387
$21
Bridgett Harrington: 'Shibari You Can Use'
, grainy low-quality print... but you can make it out. Again, more Kinbaku-bi.
http://www.amazon.com/Shibari-You-Can-Use-Japanese/dp/061514490X
$20
'Two Knotty Boys Showing You The Ropes'
, this one is their own stylistic macrame, not very practical for real bondage. It's amusing from a rope top perspective, but I doubt I'll ever use it for anything. It DOES have a bunch of the beginner's knots and techniques that you'll need, though.
http://www.amazon.com/Knotty-Showing-Ropes-Step-Step/dp/193116049X
SPECIAL - $11.53 at Amazon (new)
'Two Knotty Boys Back on the Ropes'
, much like the other book, although possibly a bit easier for the beginner to see what's going on since this one has full color photography. ISBN 1931160694
http://www.amazon.com/Two-Knotty-Boys-Back-Ropes/dp/1931160694
$14.96
I don't mean to denigrate Dan and JD's
macrame style
... I've done a
LOT
of macrame myself when I was young. I figured it was good practice, and had ready 'deniability' in case anyone wondered why I was so interested in
rope and knots
. There's not many shipyards in Phoenix (land of the Stinking Desert), so you
hide in the open
however you can. Between macrame and Boy Scouts I got a lot of good practice at a tender young age, FULLY aware of what and why I was pursuing knotty topics.
Master K's original book 'Shibari, the Art of Japanese Bondage' gets into the kind of bondage that WILL keep ya restrained. Kinbaku-bi is a Japanese art form, and doesn't work as well if the bottom is trying to get out of the tie. I'm more into "ugly but secure" myself.
Another good book if you speak Deutsch is 'Bondage made in Japan' by the Better Sex Line. It's far and above the nicest one I have, and if it was available in English it'd be my top choice for newbies. The photo quality is stellar, and it's not
all
Kinbaku... there's a number of good general-purpose ties in there. Sadly, since it's in Deutsch it's way off the bottom of my "recommended" list.
http://www.amazon.de/Bondage-made-Japan-Helen-Lloyd/dp/3798601151
I wouldn't stress over the knots, though. If you want to get into it, find a good solid single-limb cuff knot that works for you, and branch out from there. The "Portugese Bowline" is pretty good for a cuff knot, as is the "Foole's Cuff" (a la Philip the Foole). I've seen 10 or more different ways of making a cuff, but all ya really need to do is learn ONE of 'em well so that you can tie it quickly. Nearly all of the two-limb knots are some variant on a "square lashing", so Boy Scout skills to the rescue!
For the best link site I've found for bondage knots, see this treasure trove:
http://www.massachusettsbondage.com/tutorials/Tutorials.html
as well as the one Emily mentioned earlier:
http://www.animatedknots.com
FYI, 'kinbaku' and 'shibari' are used alternately in Japanese depending on the sentence structure, both mean 'tying up' or 'binding tightly'. 'kinbaku-bi' would be 'beautiful tight bondage' or thereabouts. Japanese is hard even for the Japanese people.

Wow thanks so much for all of the knotty information.
I have been resorting to handcuffs and SportSheets (? I think that is the brand name) Restraints up until now. I did buy a Japanese rope handcuff set but found when you are sweaty and struggling with someone who is resisting you with all his might, they are imfuckingpossible to get on. Oh, I should review the cursing policy on here tonight before I get myself in trouble I guess!
Anyway, I have already been practicing some of these and it will be so much easier to hide a rope in my bra or panties then a loud and heavy set of handcuffs. SWEET!! This is going to really help me out next time.

There ISN'T a 'cursing' policy here; we're all adults. You can say pretty much anything you want and likely nobody will take offense. If it turns into a flame war, we'll just calmly move it into the Detention Hall so you can continue to pound on someone at will without disturbing the Gentle Readers. Believe me, I've used that area before to let off some virulent steam.
--------------
The only problem with the 'speed restraint' rope cuffs is that you pretty much need someone that's not fighting back TOO hard. They're all based on a variant of a slip knot, and they'll fall apart until you get BOTH wrists or ankles secured, ideally with at least a n additional granny knot to lock them. Boy Scouts were all hot on the square knot, but the to me that's one of the most USELESS knots because it capsizes easily if the tension on it isn't even. I'm sure I'll burn in Boy Scout Hell for saying it, but you should learn to NEVER use a square knot unless you're doing it for looks.
Some variation of how they speed-tie a calf in the roping competitions would probably work better if he's fighting back.
That way the slip-knot wedges on the first limb, and you lash the other one against it once you have the first one down.
If you peer closely at the Japanese bondage, they do most of it with only 3 or 4 bends/knots, and a lot of the time it isn't even secured... the loose ends are simply shoved underneath so it looks pretty. That screwed me up for YEARS trying to figure out what they were doing from the few high-quality photos I'd had of Japanese bondage... it didn't make any sense from a knot perspective. That's 'cos they weren't using knots: it was just routed around to use up the loose rope and tucked in. Once I figured that out, the arm bars and (other things) suddenly made sense.
I've got a bunch more stuff here that I'll try to bundle together. I can re-up the 'educational materials' in the earlier post if you'd like, 'cos I presume they've expired by now. The TKB videos are likely still active, though.

Oh he struggles all right. I have ended up with a lot of bruises and sprains and cuts getting him tied up!! And I got my head bashed against the wall so hard once I almost blacked out!
Anyway, that is why I like the handcuffs.
Painful for him yes, but it makes it a lot easier for me to use that as a method to initially get him restrained. I can usually get one ankle or one wrist secured by distracting him and then cuffing one part of him before he knows it is coming. It feels like cheating though.
I am glad you told me the quick restraints can capsize because that would have been bad if I didn't know that going in. I DO want to give up the handcuffs though because they are very painful and I would like to not send him home with those kind of marks on his wrists and ankles. Plus I think it would be VERY hot to get him somewhat restrained and then slowly tie him up the rest of the way. I think it would be very satisfying to be able to do that to him. Well I guess you'd know about that eh?
I need good take down methods and good knots so that I can rape him like we BOTH want! I have been successful so far but he fights me harder every time and I do NOT like to lose. I appreciate all of your help Ropefiend!!

There's a new person with a bunch of knot videos at YouTube, 31 videos in the last 4 months. Most of his videos are in the TKB 'macrame' style, but there's a couple that are handy if you're a bit more advanced and looking at body suspension.

Edit:
Unless I misunderstood what he was saying, 'TyingItAllTogether' is actually JD from the Two Knotty Boys! Cool!
I finally got off of my lazy ass and joined the FetLife 'Adult Rope Art' mirror of the old Yahoo! group... looks like the FetLife group is a bit easier to read than the Yahoo! group is, so I'll probably camp out there instead. The Yahoo! group is all linear, and the FetLife mirror is threaded linear (more like a forum) so you don't have to hunt to find other comments in a thread.
