Later that same day, Devin and I had a talk about what happened the night he had to play lookout. He approached me and sat down at the table across from me, eyes not leaving mine, still not saying anything. Who does this guy think he is? He doesn’t intimidate me.
He reaches down and tosses a maroon fabric onto the table. Janelle’s panties. “Remy man, why’d you take these?” I feel my temperature increase and retaliate. “Why the fuck were you in my room, huh? You’re not my girl Devin, don’t interrogate me.” He leans back in his seat.
“Your door was open and I saw them sitting on your nightstand, I investigated because I didn’t think what I was seeing was real. You really did it.”
“Best decision I could’ve made.” I respond, leaning back into my seat as well, I can relax. I slide my phone onto the table pulled up to Janelle’s first photo.
“Holy shit.” I watched him gawk at the screen.
“Swipe to the next one.” The one from this morning. Following the pair I took tossed onto the table too.
“Thats what the hell was taking you so long? You’re a sneaky guy Remy.”
I smirk. I couldn’t be more pleased with myself.
“You remember our deal?”
“Yes.” My eyes roll.
“I want to cash it in, let’s set her up.”
“That’s not how this works. You said when another opportunity comes.”
“I never said it had to be an opportunity that came naturally. C’mon I helped you, its your turn to return the favor. A deal is a deal.”
“Fuck, fine.” I sneer back. “This is the only opportunity Im going to give you, after that, don’t count on this ever happening again.
“One time is all I need.” Devin smiled back.
I was not a fan of sharing Janelle, it agitated me that those were the terms I agreed to. What the hell was I thinking?
“Devin, I don’t really know what to expect on how she’ll behave with you, I had an advantage, actually, have. But you don’t. So you may have some difficultly.”
“You’re not going to help me?”
What a dumb question. “All you did was provide a distraction, played lookout. I’ll do the same, and thats all I’ll do. If you can’t handle her then you don’t deserve to have her in the first place.” Nothing but bite in my voice, Devin was really starting to annoy me with his lack.
“When did you want to do this? Devin asks.
“We can do this right now. She’s over there by herself.” I wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. I didn’t enjoy the thought of him taking what’s mine, I could tolerate Andrew because Im not exposed to their sex life, only in conversations when the occasional juicy detail would be thrown in.
Devin took out his phone and called Janelle, having her number from when Andrew couldn’t find his phone and had to use his, the man would lose his head if it wasn’t attached to his body. I listened close on the other end.
“Hey Janelle, you mind coming to get Andrew’s headphones? He left them over here last time and I know he will be looking for them in a few hours.”
There was a pause on her end, “…..y-yeah I can, just, um, Remy isn’t home is he?” I huge grin crept across my face as silently shook my head no.
“No he’s not here, and I’m actually about to leave shortly, so do you think you can just come get them now? Why did you wanna know if Remy is home?”
Another pause, “Nothing, Im coming now.”
“See you then, later.”
Devin hung up and turned to me.
“Damn man, what exactly did you do? She sounded like she wasn’t gonna come if you were here.”
“That’s between me and her, nothing you need to worry about.”
A few minutes pass and a knock breaks the silence in the room. Its her. I nod at Devin and disappear into my room to stay out of Janelle’s sight.
“Hey, they’re on the table with a couple others so just grab whatever is his.”
I watch as Devin closes in behind her, asking questions to disperse the silence in the air.
“So you never told me, why’d you want to know if Remy was home, is something wrong?”
“Devin…Remy, he, he…” I decided to cut her short, Devin didn’t need all the details.
“He what?” I asked, making my entrance. Janelle’s eyes widened and slowly started backing up, tugging on Devin’s arm.
“A wolf’s favorite food is a kind heart, easy to lure. Sometimes, you won’t even need the sheeps clothing, Devin isn’t gonna save you Janelle.”
Her fear quickly turns to anger as she pushes herself away from him.
“You guys set me up! You knew Devin you fucking knew! Let me the hell out of here, NOW”
I smirk back. There’s that fire. And Devin is about to catch every ounce of it.
