Actually there is a fairly sizable number of people who play both roles. They're called "switches." So no, there's nothing weird about your going back and forth. You're just responding to the natural dominance and/or submission in the people you encounter.

S, I think everyone's pretty much hit the nail on the head. Being with the right partner is dead on! From another perspective I don't switch but we enjoy on occasion playing with a switch. A swith with us gets to play both roles, submissive to me and I allow her to Dom my kajira.
