So, today I got to tour the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction.

(Yes, *that* Kinsey...)

As you can imagine, being the very epicenter of the intellectual analysis of all things perverted, Kinsey has a little something for everybody. And I do mean, everybody. Including two recent studies on sexual aggression.

Picture below.

The poster was so big that I had to take several shots and stitch it together in Photoshop. There's a visible defect near the middle because of this. And RU may resize it too small to be legible. The crux of that study is that they took heterosexual men with varying histories of sexual aggression and showing them pictures of a straight couple having sex, with some deliberately showing the woman enjoying herself, and others deliberately ambiguous in her facial expression. They then plotted correlations in how the test subjects interpreted the woman's experience, based on demographics, the subject's arousal from the pictures, their history of sexual aggression, and the extent of their hypermasculine attitudes.

All subjects, aggressive or not, demonstrated that they could distinguish the enjoyment photos from the ambiguous photos.

Men with a either a history of aggression or a high hypermasculine index were more aroused by the ambiguous photos than the men without such history.

Those with a high hypermasculine index were more likely to determine that the ambiguous photos were enjoyable for the woman.

The paper is another study, that purports to find that sexually aggressive men are more prone to other risky behaviors and less likely to wear condoms, placing them at increased HIV risk.

Very interesting.

So much oppression in our culture is based on shame about sex: the oppression of women, of cultural minorities, oppression in the name of the (presumably asexual) family, oppression of sexual minorities. We are all oppressed. We have all been taught, one way or another, that our desires, our bodies, our sexualities, are shameful. What better way to defeat oppression than to get together in communities and celebrate the wonders of sex?

I could be missing the point here, but really.....

DO people look like they are watching a comedy, during "sexual relations"?
I know people like to laugh, but honestly....
when they horny, hunny.... most aren't grinning.
and depending on what stage.... i know i dont look like i'm having a great time....

The point of the study was that sexually aggressive and hypermasculine men are more likely than average to interpret an ambiguous signal as still containing an enjoyment or consent indicator, and are more aroused than average in the face of that ambiguous signal.

It speaks right to the heart of the "she wanted it" rape defense...

and the point i am after is that the study is flawed because no one looks happy and positive during sex, AT LEAST to my knowledge.
that would explain why the men are more attracted and aroused by a face more closely showing a realistic view of arousal....
WHEN we are aroused we are
tense
flushed
our blood pressure and heart rate are elevated
our pupils dilate
breathing rate increases

very much like if we were in danger...
so our faces show in more ambiguous terms.

that is my opinion...
and i am not saying to discard the study.

I see your point. Arousal, as a physiological response, is a lot like stress. That's why orgasm is most frequently referred to as a release of tension.

I recently added a Rosselito cartoon to my profile pics and I cited my own positive interpretation of the ambiguity in facial expression as a reason the image appealed to me. I knew not everybody would see it the same way I do. I felt a little broken as I wrote it.

Personally, I think it is difficult - especially in this day and age-
to really be "absolute" in ANY interpretation of anything.

it is too easy to be"criticized" by a religious, Feminist, political, or just some activists groups.
I am by no means one to try to change the world- But I would also tend toward ambiguity and find it arousing.  Roll Eyes it is only labeling after that i really have trouble with- BECAUSE i do think it is fairly normal.

Coming late to what is an interesting thread.  See that pictures have been removed but if there are links to the studies that would be appreciated.

Yes, it seems those photos were hidden in the Great Purge. I have added them again, now.
