Title: From The Turntables In My Head
Post by: carhamgrater on April 16, 2019, 12:21:57 PM
Jessica_33 graciously posted to me that I could post the music that I like in her topic "Jessica's Jukebox"  and I politely declined for reasons I shall not go into. So to be fair it only right that I post my own music topic and show the eclectic taste that I have going through my mind and headphones as i post and write.

Not going to start with my obsession with The Coors or Girls Aloud, instead I'm going to begin with a group that further ignited my love of Classical music. Four lovely young ladies called Bond

if you would like to see more check out a full live performance from The Royal Albert Hall

So on series of forums I've been playing a former college Dj various music based games for the past ten years . In my time I've proven to her (She's in her mid thirties) that I can counter her song for song. Sometimes I even surprise myself Like when I found this one from Russian Band Serebro

can't understand a single word but the lyrics and music flows so hauntingly that I fell instantly in love with it!

Alanis back in her giving-Dave-Coulier-blowjobs-in-a-movie-theatre days!  She was a little hottie then. I even had a bit of a celeb crush on her, although I didn't really listen to much of her music.

I'm sure you all can remember your very first single, Record, Eight track, cassette, Cd, MPs- you name the format. I had to eat ten boxes of "Sugar Crisp" to get the boxtop required to send away with a quarter to get The Sugar Bears  first album in 1972. Mike Settle was the main male singer while background and main female vocals were by Kim Carnes (Yes she of Bette Davis Eyes Fame!). This was the only chart hit for the group "You Are The One

and here you can listen to the whole album

Having grown up in that period of the early '70s, I'm surprised I don't remember this.......but I don't.  Sugary cereals were a treat in our household, I was more of a Shreddies, Cheerios, Rice Krispies kinda kid. Pretty cool though, I likely did hear this song at one time as a kid but just don't remember it. Good find, carhamgrater!

So by know i think i shown that I can pervert song lyrics for my own use, This is one of the easiest song every to pervert. A beautiful song by Dr. Hook "A Little Bit More"

So I like to take the word love out of the chorus and replace it with Rape

When your body's had enough of me
And I'm layin' flat out on the floor
When you think I've raped you all I can
I'm gonna rape you a little bit more

I've learnt never to underestimate your ability to pervert anything! Really enjoying everyone's taste in music. I think it goes to show that even though our ages are so different music is one of those things that unites us all

Saw these guys in concert in 1995 on the 'Teeth and Tissue' tour! What a show! And they did both of those songs. Good picks, carhamgrater! My favorite part of the concert, the Headstones did an impromptu cover of the Tragically Hip's "New Orleans Is Sinking'. At the end of the song, Hugh Dillon says, "Fuck you, Gord Downie! The Hip ain't the only band out of Kingston!" The crowd just loved it!

This video is rather special in that it was one of the last done with original Prism vocalist Ron Tabak before his untimely death in the summer of 1980. I really liked this song too. I was 14 when it came out. Prism was one of my favorite Canadian bands at the time, they had just released the great album, 'Armageddon', the year before. My personal fave by Prism, however, is the title track of their 1978 album, "See Forever Eyes". I love that song!

Diving back into my preteens for this one to a group consisting of three brother Bill (Kate Hudson's father),Mark And Brett

The Hudson Brothers with "So You Are A Star

taken from their Wednesday night variety show which lead to them getting a Saturday morning show. Not only could they sing but they had comedic talent that made their shows fun to as as demonstrated by "The Adventures of Chucky Margolis"

Been in isolation since March 15th and my girlfriend's new room has been teaching me British Entertainment while I reciprocate teaching her Canadian entertainment. Now in my opinion, i come out ahead in the lessons as she has shown me Louisa Johnson, the winner of X-Factor 2015
(https://i.ibb.co/WGz9FBg/background-2018-mob.jpg) (https://ibb.co/FmYvJ8g)

then had to put up with Olly Murs the runner up or 2009's X-Factor

Who did a duet with Louisa on "Unpredictable"

Every now and then an artist covers a song and totally owns it. This is a perfect example of that. The original was meant to stir your emotions but this cover if you listen and apply it to today's situation should scare the living hell out of you!

Disturbed- Sound Of Silence

The original by Simon and Garfunkel from 1964

For 25 years my girlfriend has been trying to get me to listen to her 'metal music'  and like a true pop rocker i have refused vehemently! Lat night at work she tricked me when she played the follwoing two tunes over the Tannoy system, Eluveitie an Swiss folk metal band

The Call Of Mountains

and

Omnos

Then this one played and i remember why i don't listen to her music!

Hey, I saw Eluveitie live last year :) A little bit, at least - I was more interested in another band playing at the same time. I caught Inis Mona at least, which is their best song. Omnos is a close second, even though they are very different. They sing in a dead language called Gaulish (in addition to English, obviously).
